Community Involvement

Over the past twelve years, Fairchild Media and the Chinese community have raised over $4.5 million to help SickKids fight the greatest challenges in child health by hosting a live radiothon.

Last year, over $420,000 was raised in one day for SickKids Hospital through their on air corporate matching program. We had over 200,000 radio listeners tuning in and close to 350,000 impressions on Facebook and Twitter with 790 social media engagements. We appreciate everyone’s community contributions and will continue to match individual donations.

SickKids Innovators is an exclusive program that engages the next generation of philanthropists to support SickKids Foundation and speedily deploy funds in the areas of most need, such as research, clinical advances and compassionate care.

With our Innovators contributions, we are informed, empowered through stories of courage and hope that play out every day about projects that are SickKids highest priorities and in return, we recommend which project to fund.

Since the program’s inception the Innovators group has donated over $1.5 million in support of a number of projects, such as the Paediatric Advance Care Team, the Medical Psychiatry Alliance and the SickKids Ghana Initiative.

Pacific Insurance has partnered with The Royal Conservatory of Music to provide a scholarship to a gifted student at The Glenn Gould School of Music. With the purpose of developing human potential through music and the arts, it was a natural fit to partner with RCM. We are delighted to be working with such a distinguished institution that is dedicated to education and giving back.

Every child deserves the chance to education. The most recent recipient, Anna Wojcik, is a Polish-Canadian soprano studying with Jean MacPhail. She has appeared in various orchestras such as the Toronto Sinfonietta, Camerata Ensemble and the Celebrity Symphony Orchestra.

Pacific Insurance Broker Inc. will continue to offer yearly scholarships to RCM for this wonderful educational opportunity.

Since 1988, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto’s guiding mission is to take a leadership role in a number of community projects, such as promoting and preserving Chinese culture and heritage in Canada, as well as building and strengthening cultural and business relationships, collaboration between Canada and China.

Launching their fundraising campaign in April 1994, CCC has received tremendous support from all three levels of government, private corporations, overseas donors and the Toronto area community. Established in 1967 as the first Chinese charitable organization in Canada, Mon Sheong operates a number of programs such as their reputable long term care centers, Chinese schools, volunteer youth groups and adult day programs. Mon Sheong Court, completed in 2008, is the first independent living senior apartment project of Mon Sheong, enabling seniors to enjoy a tailored quality lifestyle.

Mon Sheong’s board of directors comprises approximately twenty philanthropists from business, healthcare, and other professional backgrounds. The Foundation also operates under the distinguished honorary patronage of Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and her predecessors.
